Certificate IV in Medical Practice Assisting (HLT43307)
Overview
This qualification provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist in a medical practice under supervision by and in the context of a consultation being conducted by a medical practitioner. The medical assisting work role includes a broad range of administrative functions, identified tasks of a clinical assisting nature and, where appropriate, provision of client support and guidance in relation to identified treatment issues as per instruction from the health care practitioner.

Electives
Electives are created in accordance with the national packaging rules to best reflect the current needs of industry. Your ICM qualification coordinator can discuss the suitability of each elective to your students.
- Work with clients with alcohol and other drug problems
- Work with aged clients
- Work with clients with mental health problems
Duration of Study
Students are required to be employed in their chosen field of study to enhance their ‘on-the-job’ learning. They need to be supervised by a qualified staff member and working a minimum of 16 hours per week. It is anticipated students will take 12 month to complete this qualification.
